The Reading Room

The Reading Room is a community initiative and event series that was started by myself and Sissel Marie Tonn in 2015 in response to a percieved gap in non-institutional learning opportunities within The Hague. The Reading Room has since grown into a longer term project exploring how to create meaningful public encounters with contemporary ideas on art and society through shared acts of reading. The series stems from a belief that keeping a close connection to historical and emerging theories on art and culture is invaluable to artists. Especially in the 21st century, where theory, practice and social engagement in the arts seem to merge ever more seamlessly.

Until 2018 The Reading Room was produced by the Instrument Inventors Initiative and was hosted by Stroom Den Haag. It now operates as a nomadic initiative, operating at various locations within the Netherlands and online.
